The ‘Good News Bible’ I own, (one of several different makes and versions I have), opened at MALACHI 2-7 with the scripture “It is the duty of priests to teach the true knowledge of God”.

Simple and obvious really, I suppose!

Against the backdrop of national news today, that only 46.2% of people in England and Wales, describe themselves as being of the Christian religion, then I am compelled to speak out. As instructed by Malachi.

As far back as 2001, there were 71.7% of people in England and Wales, who described themselves as ‘Christian’. So what has happened, to turn our once proud Christian country, into an Island of people who have lost their faith? Either to paganism and any other manner of substitutes, or to a status of complete ‘Non-Religion’.

I don’t know the answer. But I do know that it is NOT ageing, fertility, mortality or even migration. Agnosticism as an excuse, I do understand, but only partially. Whilst it is potentially reasonable, to ‘cop-out’ during the census, on the suggestion that the existence of God is unknowable, this does not mean the supreme being should be denied. You do know him. You know his works in you, and the love he has for you. If anyone denies the existence of God, then they deny their own existence!

As the archeological world, turn up yet more and more evidence to ‘support’ the provenance of biblical scripture, it seems more and more Christians are turning away. My message is that ‘It is time to turn back’!

God is with you. His Son Jesus, died for the sins of everybody, in the greatest show of symbolic forgiveness, that could ever be mustered for the sake of humanity. His Mother Mary  sheds tears for you. His Guardian Angels watch over you. His healing and love, imparted through the Holy Spirit, comforts and heals you.

Embrace and defend your faith.

What strikes me is that there are a proliferation of charities in many countries, that could all be working to the same aim with a common purpose, in many different areas (not just cancer research) if only there was a way of co-ordinating their funding and ‘pooling’ the effort they expend!

I understand that Companies have an incentive not to co-operate in such research, when related ‘in-house’ advances provide a commercial edge, but what about the humane edge? Corporates too have their part to play then!

There will hopefully come a day when people realise that the overiding reason for any advancement should not be profit related but humanity related. ‘People’ should be placed before ‘Money’ in an environment where a formula is reached to compensate all concerned for their share in development, through the returns made after deployment of life saving drugs and treatments. It may sound utopian at present, but that is because the concept is alien under current operational frameworks.

There are some fine academic institutions around the World and some extremely capable scientists around the World in industry but also in all walks of life. Also let us not forget the invaluable resource that is in retirement. Let us hope and pray that someone in a position of responsibility, with that spark of conscience and necessary leadership, can be encouraged and supported to bring such resources together and eventually put a stop to the endless waste and duplication in cross country activities. The World is one. Therefore so should the efforts of people responsible for the World be co-ordinated as one, for the greater good of the World’s population. This includes a requirement for individuals to think also not just of themselves and their loved ones, but also their extended family, on a global scale.

We all have our part to play!

The answer lays somewhere in-between. Religion should not be allowed its place as a predominant theme, but does have a place to offer an underlying contribution to moral education and spiritual self discipline. Politics should be seen for the basic administration function that it is, with no single person (or elitist group) being allowed to hold sway over the future of a Country’s entire population! Peoples the world over should subscribe to a basic moral contract. Love one another, put others before self, and preserve, respect and protect the natural world that supports our life here on Earth.

There will be many wars, much loss of life, and rampant destruction of our planet, before new caretakers of the World borne out from the World (with no predominant interest other than common interest) will emerge to stabilise the situation. The process has already begun. We should pray for change to be completed quickly in order that suffering of people and our planet can be minimised. Most of all we should pray that we ourselves can change to meet the demands expected of us in living a life amongst others, of unconditional love!

Somehow we must go back to and preserve the first principles of humanity, reconfigure the model of life and keep it simple!
